Shinrin-Yoku – Forest Bathing Walk
We are thrilled to be able to stage another iteration of our popular Shinrin-Yoku – Forest Bathing walk. Tree worship is universal, as is our symbiotic relationship to trees. Come and explore Canberra’s heritage listed, 100-year-old Cork Forest.
Join a cohort of Localjinni’s as we throw light on this enchanted wood, make walking drawings, and meditate on the nature of trees.
Participating artists – Dr Sally Clarke, Dr Tracey Benson, Jane Duong, Nicole Voevodin-Cash, Caroline Huff, Dr Ursula Frederick and Fiona Hooton. Supported by the National Arboretum (See showreel)
Bookings Now Open
Staged in association with the Australian National University and University of Canberra’s Arboreal Alterations Symposium: Tree modification and meaning making from the past to present.
(Thursday 2 – Friday 3 November).
Artist in Residence Localjinni & Canberra Art Biennial
We are delighted to welcome Nicole Voevodin-Cash as Artist in Residence from 2-16 November 2023. Nicole is a Queensland based artist whose thesis is “interaction” as a sculptural strategy and looking into ‘Educating Attention’ developing “walking as ART: ART as walking’. The residency is a new collaboration between Localjinni & CAB.
The Year to Date
ProtoX Arts Digital Accelerator Program (Feb– May)
Fiona (Founder Localjinni) was accepted into Creative Australia’s first cohort of the ProtoX Arts Digital Accelerator Program. A 12-week mentoring program for artists, groups, and organisations to develop new digital business ideas. Fiona successfully completed the program and has received a small grant for marketing support. This grant will be used to pay for an assistant to help us with marketing and promotion.
Lesbian Led – Pride Walk (March)
Localjinni ran a Pride Walk around the Lake in association with the Enlighten Festival and World Pride celebrations. It was fascinating to explore some of the city’s queer stories, and to screen works by our many LGBTIQ+ contributing artists.
Guerrilla Projection Night (July)
On a still winter’s night, we gathered around some of the capital’s, grandest edifices to see images by participants in the Brutalist by bike workshop. A PhotoAccess program, the workshop was led by photographer Jordan Stokes. Stay tuned for more Guerrilla Projections staged in partnership with PhotoAccess in 2024. A great way to see your work on a monumental scale and to get a great image for your next grant or exhibition application.
