Talks included a personal reflection on a first job in Ashfield in 1966 as well as local identities\u00a0such as P.L Travers [writer of Mary Poppins], Mei Quong Tart [mandarin, tea merchant and philanthropist], Daphne Akhurst [Australian tennis star] and Ernest Fisk, Chairman of (Amalgamated Wireless (Australasia), AWA.\u00a0Other talks focused on places of significance including Highway Ave and the old AWA site on Parramatta Road.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.localjinni.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/123.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1613\" src=\"https:\/\/www.localjinni.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/123-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.localjinni.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/123-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.localjinni.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/123-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.localjinni.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/123.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><span style=\"background-color: transparent; text-align: inherit; color: #686868; font-size: 13px; font-style: italic;\">Christine sets the scene with a sense of place<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Thanks to the Ashfield and Summer Hill Toastmasters clubs,\u00a0Ashfield Local History Librarians and to all who participated in the Lightning Talks at Thirning Villa.\u00a0It was a great community event on which to finish my artist in residence (AIR) in the Inner West.
